The first variant of the P-51 Mustang to see combat was the
Allison-powered A-36 dive bombing version. Capt. Mike Russo,
USAAF, was in one of the first A-36 squadrons, deployed in N.Africa.
Amazingly Russo would attain 5 confirmed aerial victories in
this aircraft, making him the first P-51 Ace, and only A-36 Ace.
