F9F Panthers fly overhead as the aircraft of the USS Essex conduct
aerial operations on September 4th 1951. As part of Task Force
77, the Essex provided air support, interdiction and escort for
naval aircraft supporting the United Nations Ground Forces advance
up the Korean peninsula. On this day, 2 F9F’s were lost
due to enemy action over the vicinity of Maengan, Korea. |
