Conceived initially as a replacement for the Hurricane, the
Typhoon's high altitude performance was disappointing. It did
eventually prove to be a superb high speed ground-attack aircraft,
arguably the best in this role. Seen here are two bomb laden
Typhoons kicking up the dust on a Normandy airfield, as they
