A lone P-51 Mustang makes a solitary cross-country flight
above the mighty and expansive Grand Canyon. At the end of WWII
hundreds of Mustangs along with numerous other types of war surplus
aircraft made similar flights. These flights
took the once noble and gallant war machines to the aircraft
graveyards of the southwestern United States. Once there, these
airplanes that led the allies to victory became material for
the welders cutting torch. Who knows how many a pilot shed a
bittersweet tear as he flew his beloved aircraft over the wondrous
beauty of the Grand Canyon on its last flight. Signed by the
