This P-51D, flown by Lt. Col. Wayne
Blickenstaff of the 350th Fighter Squadron, 353rd Fighter Group,
is shown in late 1944 escorting a group of B-17s home as the
sun sets. It has been a long day and a long mission. The men
are tired and some on board the Bj-17s may be wounded but soon
the planes will be able to separate the return to base for debriefing
and rest following "The Long Ride Home."
