Bud Anderson in "Old Crow"
and Chuck Yeager in "Glamorous Glen III" as they lift
off from the main runway at Leiston on the morning of January
14, 1945. This was the last mission of the second tour for both
pilots, and with little chance of contact with the Luftwaffe,
the two decided to go off on a sight-seeing tour. They dropped
their wing tanks and strafed them, buzzed a hotel on Lake Annecy
and arrived back at Leiston late in the day having flown over
1,000 miles. They also discovered that they had missed the biggest
day for the 357th Fighter Group, during which the unit had scored
55 plus victories.
