In August 1942, a new group was formed within Bomber Command,
designed to improve bombing accuracy the Pathfinder Force was
borne. Manned by the most experienced crews, and equipped with
the newest 'gadgets' available, the Pathfinders would range ahead
of the bomber formations, locate and mark the target with coloured
flares, and so give the bombardiers of the main bomber force
a clear aiming point.
Here a 35 Squadron Halifax of the Pathfinders is seen at 20,000
feet above occupied Europe, carrying out it's lonely and perilous
mission.
Signed by three 35 Squadron aircrew, pilot, navigator and rear
gunner.
