Giclée is a French word meaning, "a spraying of pigments"
(pronounced "zhee-clay"). In terms of art work, a giclée
is a piece that has been produced using bubble jet printing technology,
although the printers used for this are of a much higher grade
than the normal home computer version, and produce superior image
quality when compared to lithographs, (the most common form of
print making).
Giclées can be produced on different materials, but they
are most commonly offered on canvas, or on water colour paper.
In some cases the term 'textured canvas' is used. This is when
a texture is applied to the canvas before the printing is performed,
and gives the three dimensional appearance of an original painting. |
