An epic two and a half year siege of the strategic island
of Malta began with Italy's entry into the war in 1940. A handful
of Gloster Gladiators were the island's only defence in the early
days of the siege. Though heavily outnumbered, the Gladiators
fought valiantly, denying the Italians mastery of the sky.
