D-Day Dakota

by David Poole

The Douglas C-47 Skytrain or Dakota was a military transport version that was developed from the Douglas DC-3 airliner. It was used extensively by the allies during WWII and remained on the front line through the 1950's with few remaining in operation to this day.

This particular "Gooney Bird", as many called her, is seen here with D-Day stripes, one of its' many paint schemes, painted on C-47's around the time of the liberation of France from the Germans, in 1944.
