Lancasters of 617 squadron make
their attack on the Mohne dam, one of two major dams to be breached
on the night of 16th. May 1943. Here we see Dinghy Young
drop one of the bouncing bombs, codename Upkeep which
has just hit the water, where it will skip across the surface
until it slams into the dam wall, sink to a predetermined depth
and explode. Robert Taylors dramatic painting pays tribute
to the men of 617 Squadron, who carried out one of the most daring,
spectacular and improbable raids of World War Two.
