18 May, 1941, the recently commissioned German Battleship KMS
Bismarck, and the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, departed their base
at Gottenhaven. Joining off Rügen Island at noon of the
19th, they set sale out of the Baltic. On their way out, they
pass the submarine U-556 returning from its recent patrol. After
a brief stopover at Korsfjord, Norway, both ships will breakout
to attack British convoys in the North Atlantic and thus start
one of the greatest sea battles in Naval History. |
