Fairy Fulmar Mk II's of No. 809 Squadron of the Fleet Air Arm,
HMS Victorious, engage Luftwaffe Ju-88's off the coast of Oran,
French North Africa during Operation Torch, 8 November 1942.
The Fulmars were tasked with Army support and tactical reconnaissance
sorties to inform the American landing troops about the French
positions. The Fleet Air Arm aircraft received American marking
as the Mers-el-Kebir and Dakar events of July 1940 had made the
French deeply resentful of the British. |
